The mountains of the interior are quite rugged and Karaburun towards the head of the peninsula is a trekking centre. Water sports including scuba diving and wind surfing are catered for and fishing is popular. The climate is typically Mediterranean but with the advantage of a cooling breeze each afternoon which makes the summer heat more comfortable without reducing the effects of the sun on those seeking a good tan. Having a car is an advantage but the regular bus service every ½ hour means that visiting the little fishing villages along the coast is quite easy (an early morning walk, a good lunch and return by bus can be most enjoyable).
